Using sources from other articles

Images, videos and audio use sources – thus the files with data. Each article is also a component of these sources. However, you may also use the sources from other articles of the same issue. If you want to duplicate articles later, it is important to understand how Triobo works with such sources.

If you use a source in the article, which is placed directly in its own article folder then the icon Fixed bond with source () appears next to it.

If this option is turned on (), then during the article copying (or object) of the same issue the copying of the source itself also occurs and in the target article the object will refer to a source copy that is placed in the target folder of an article as well. Such setting is ideal for common images on the page in a situation where the article is copied in order to create a truly independent duplicate.

If this option is turned off (), then during the article copying (but also when you copy or move an object between article) of the same issue a copy of the object is created, but it will use the original source. If for any reason you delete the original source, you have to replace the source with another one in the target article. This is suitable for repetitive elements on the page when the article source serves as a template and the intention is to create a new article using the same resources.

For objects that use resources from another article, the icon is inactive : when copying article (or object copy/move) such objects always retain their link to the original source.

Totally different situation arises when copying article to another issue. Among the releases is not possible to share sources when you copy an object that uses the source of its article, then a source copy is always created in the target article – regardless of the icon setting .

If you copy an object to another issue that uses the other source than your article, then in the target issue the Triobo attempts to find the article with the same name and connected to it. If an article of the same name is found, then it creates a copy of the source in the target article and uses it. Moreover, it will also copy all sources from that article to the new article, regardless of whether or not they are used (and for this reason they may be utilized by other article).

Note: HTML objects and sequences never copy the resources, nor do they refer to the original sources – you have to ensure yourself to copy the appropriate sources and their connections.

How to use best the possibilities of shared resources for example proceed in following way:

  • Within the issue create an article that appears in every issue – suitable may be for example the “Title”
  • Upload frequently repeated sources (logo magazines and other graphic elements of your layout) to article file Title. In articles use the sources from here.
  • When you want to create a new issue, copy the article Title to it first
  • When you copy any article from the original issue the source link will be changed to an article Title in a new issue

Hint: place shared elements such as logos, etc. to the first article (before mentioned title), not necessarily to the last one. This ensures that even if the reader begins to read a digital publication before the complete download, he will see all images on the front pages.

Summary

If you are not sure whether a new source copy will be created, or only the modified issue, then the following scheme will help you:

  • copy within the same issue:
    • object with source in its own article
      • On option Tied to source => creates a copy of the source
      • OFF option Tied to source => refers to original source
    • object with source in another articel => refers to original source
  • copy to another issue:
    • object source in its own article => creates a source copy
    • object with source in another article
      • same article found in target publication => refers to the source of the corresponding article
      • same article is not found in target publication => creates a source copy

Locking objects and articles

If you want to prevent accidental edition of any object, you may lock it. You can do this using Ctrl + L (or Cmd + L) shortcuts. Locked object:

  • cannot be moved or its properties set (by mouse, keyboard, entering data)
  • cannot be opened
  • can be duplicated (duplication is automatically unlocked)
  • can be copied into another article
  • cannot be deleted or moved into another article
  • can be grouped with other objects – the resulting group is unlocked (i.e. so you may change position of locked object when moving the entire group)

You can also lock/unlock the layout of the whole article – it can be made by icon/unlocked, which appears next to the article setting in a situation where no object is selected. In locked layout all objects are locked and:

  • objects cannot be duplicated
  • objects cannot be created
  • objects can be only copied to another article
  • objects cannot be grouped (ungrouped)
  • layout properties cannot be set (setting galleries, etc.)
  • when opening locked layout a dialog appears to let you check for errors, but errors cannot be repaired
  • cannot save (there is nothing to save)

If in any unlocked article there are some unsaved changes, the warning will appear when you attempt to lock it therefore you need to save all changes first. You can also lock the entire issue (see Issue properties)

Article creation and settings

Go to publications and the corresponding issue, display the list of articles. For each article you can edit the following information:

  • Order – issue sequence, can be changed by clicking on the up or down arrow. New articles will be automatically listed at the end.
  • Title – article title. The reader will see the list of articles (issue content); correctly selected article title will help him to decide whether to purchase the issue
  • Icon – when lit, someone has worked with the article and article has not yet been closed. Going with mouse over the icon will display the user name. Make sure that you will not be editing the article at the same time as your colleague. So you will not with not edit the article to each other.
  • Author – the article author, there can be more of authors (separated by commas). The text will appear in a reader under the article title.
  • Section – dividing publication into sections makes easier orientation to readers in your publication. The reader is automatically displayed at the beginning of section. If the section is left blank, then it is considered to belong to the same section as precious article. If the section has not been filled in the first article, then section name will be displayed instead in the reader.
  • Keywords – keywords are related to the article (e.g. name of companies, people’s names, types of products). Allways separate keywords by commas. Keywords are displayed on the right side below the article title.
  • Notes – your notes, will be never displayed in the reader

In Fn column you may see additional related functions of article:

  • copy icon icon Copy – duplicates the complete article. You can choose into which edition the article will be copied. The current edition is marked with an asterisk. If you are copying an article to another publication, then colors and styles will be merged. Colors and styles that are not contained in the target issue, will be created. Colors and styles already present in the target issue, will not be changed but will be added to the copied content. Example: in issue 1 there is a color named “test-background” and is light red. In issue 2 there is also a color named “test-background” now and is set as light blue. If you copy article from issue 1 to issue 2 that contains such color, in a copy the light blue will be used wherever the light red was used in the original. Caution: when copying the processing of sources also occurs, more in Chapter 17 Using sources from other articles
  • Delete icon Delete icon – deletes article and all its sources (images, videos, etc.) after the confirmation. This cannot be reversed.

Articles division to issues and publications

Your work in a Triobo publishing editor is logically divided into three levels.

  1. The highest ranked is the publication (Publication), typically the specific magazine. For each publication a common list of fonts is established. Later, when you want to publish in your own reader for tablets, it will be connected to just one publication.
  2. Publications may be further broken down to issues (Issues). Typical monthly periodical has therefore 12 issues per year. If your publication is a catalog, individual editions can be either the copies of it (spring, summer, fall …) or perhaps the subcategories (kitchen, bedroom, garden …). For each issue exists a common set of colors (color palette) and font formating styles. Each edition also represents an essential commercial element from the readers point of view- your reader may download single issues and read them in the reader (whether for free or for a fee). Triobo Single reader enables publishing of just single issue.
  3. Single editions then contain articles (Articles). Each article bears also other properties beside its name (author, section …) and the actual content as well. The reader further proceeds from left to right after opening of edition. If the article is larger than the size of display he may scroll downwards to further content.
