Text editing

Double-click a text frame to get into a mode where you can enter the text. At the top the bar appears for text formatting, divided into four categories:

text menu

  • Paragraph style – is used to set the paragraph style (more here)
  • Paragraph format – is used to set the paragraph format, this is to change paragraph setting that was acquired from style (details)
  • Block format – allows to create any block within the paragraph (e.g. one or more words) and to those then separately determine a different format than the surrounding text. More here
  • Functions – includes special functions for working with text (fixed space, hyphenation)

Unlike conventional text editors is not necessary to label the whole paragraph if you want to change its style or format – always works with the entire paragraph in which the cursor is located. If you check the part of the text, then the style change or paragraph format change affects all paragraphs that are at least partially selected.

Likewise, always work with the entire block in which the cursor is located.

Hint: Keyboard shortcuts Alt+0 to Alt+9 (numbers on the numeric keypad) set the first 10 styles. Alt+0 is always the default style (named No style). The sequence of styles can affect their names, we recommend to number selected styles, for example: 1. Indented, 2. Subtitle, 3. Box-text, 4. Box-indented, 5. Title, 6. Perex…

Non breakable spaces

Non breakable spaces are such where there is no division of words between two lines. Use it for example before one character prepositions, or as the separator of thousands in numbers or phone numbers.

It may be inserted either by pressing shortcut keys Ctrl + Shift + Space or Alt + Space, or in the Functions menu (in features section for text boxes), it is where the non breakable spaces button is located. The editor maintains fixed spaces that are inserted from an external program.

If you want to automatically insert a fixed spaces in front of all single-character prepositions and conjunctions, press Single button preposition, again in functions section of text boxes.

Words hyphenation

You can insert optional hyphens into the words. If such word is in the place where it is possible to fill lines better by its division, the editor will make it automatically. An optional hyphen may be inserted with keyboard shortcut „Ctrl + Alt + –“ (hyphen character or minus sign).

Hyphens do not appear in words, when the word is not divided.

The button Enter optional hyphen may be also used for insertion from the Functions menu (in functions section of text box).

Inserting text from external sources

If you insert text from an external source through the clipboard (i.e. using Ctrl + C / Ctrl + V), then you have two choices:

You can insert the text from an external program (Word, InDesign) – all formating will be retained. Triobo editor can then adjust formating according to its needs so that you can continue to work with styles, blocks, etc. Often, however, it occurs that the formating is then very difficult (several imbedded blocks, etc.), which is unfortunately a feature of some third parties applications.

We therefore recommend the second choice, the insertion of copied text into Notepad (on OS X the same function stands up for Text edit) and only to copy the text to the Triobo editor. You will get pure content, which is then very quickly formatted with readymade styles.
